Biography
Kenya Tamura is the Founder and CEO of Eukarya Inc., a University of Tokyo spinout founded in 2017, and the lead of Re:Earth, an open-source WebGIS platform recognized as a Digital Public Good. Eukarya also develops Navara, a 3D map rendering engine built on Rust, WebAssembly and Three.js, and LINKS Veda, an LLM-powered geospatial analysis tool. The company works closely with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (Project PLATEAU and Project LINKS) and the Digital Agency, and with UN agencies including UNITAR, UNIDO, UNHCR and UNDP.
Kenya is an OSGeo Charter Member, a board member of OSGeo Japan Chapter, and served as Conference Co-Chair of FOSS4G Hiroshima 2026, held under the theme “Bridging Geospatial Technology and Humanity.” Eukarya has been a Diamond Sponsor of the global FOSS4G conference every year since 2023. His work focuses on open-source sustainability, cooperative organizational models, and the role of geospatial technology in humanitarian and peacebuilding contexts — Eukarya has employed engineers from conflict-affected regions since 2020. He also teaches geospatial analysis as a part-time lecturer at Komazawa University. Born in Hiroshima.
