Alessandro Sarretta

Biography

He obtained a degree (2002) and a PhD (2008) in Environmental Science at the University Ca' Foscari, Venice, and a master degree (2008) in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing at the University IUAV, Venice. Since 2012 he is a researcher at the Italian National Research Council (CNR), now at the Research Institute for Hydrogeological Protection of the CNR, in Padua, previously at the Institute of Marine Science of the CNR, in Venice. He is involved, in the marine/coastal and now geomorphological fields, in environmental data management and processing, spatial data infrastructures, implementation of decision support systems, standards and interoperability of research data. He is interested in various fields of open knowledge: free and open source geographic software, open science, participatory mapping, citizen science. He is a member of the Italian associations GFOSS.it and Wikimedia Italia, and an OpenStreetMap volunteer.
