Biography

Stefan Keller is Full Professor and Head of Institute at the University of OST, Rapperswil Campus. He founded the Geometa Lab and teaches, among other things, Data Engineering / Database Systems and Data Analytics as well as Geoinformation Systems / GISTech.

Stefan Keller studied geography and computer science at the University of Zurich and previously worked at Credit Suisse in the first Usability Lab, at Unisys (Switzerland) in software development, and at Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. He is involved in (Geo) Data Engineering and Analytics as well as in (Open) Data Management and is involved in several innovative Open Source (Python) and Open (Spatial) Data projects. Stefan Keller is a board member of the Swiss OpenStreetMap Association, and a member of the Swiss PostgreSQL Users Group and the Swiss Cartography Society.

Stefan Keller …

  • is organizing regularly mapathons, database seminars, and courses about open source databases and GIS software;
  • is publishing tutorials at OpenSchoolMaps.org – a nifty portal with open educational resources;
  • co-organized the FOSSGIS 2013 and 2021 – the largest german speaking conference about Open Source GIS and OpenStreetMap;
  • is local organizer of the annual Swiss PG Day – the Swiss conference on PostgreSQL.
