My Mission
Being an advocate of open source geospatial technologies and open knowledge I am a huge supporter of the migration of knowledge from the research environments to the industrial world.Biography
I work on open source GIS development since my degree in environmental engineering in 2002. In
2005 I co-founded HydroloGIS, a company that makes use as well as develops geospatial open
source software for environmental analyses.
Currently I lead the HortonMachine (geospatial hydro-geomorphologic analyses library) and
Smash (digital field mapping) projects and am part of the development team of Aries of the BC3
Research center in Bilbao. I also am lecturer for Advanced Geomatics at the Free University of Bolzano.
My main interest is the creation of, and collaboration in, environmental research tools that have
practical purpose and are meant to be used in production environments. Being an advocate of open
source geospatial technologies and open knowledge I am a huge supporter of the migration of
knowledge from the research environments to the industrial world.
