How to become a sponsor?

Although we have a tremendous volunteer community — including organizations as well as individuals — involved in the advancement of open source technologies, some things still have hard costs. To cover these expenses we need your help. Financial support will help ensure that OSGeo will be a sustainable and healthy organization representing open source geospatial technologies long into the future.

Why Sponsor OSGeo

• Your Organization Depends on OSGeo Software – Your company or government agency uses OSGeo technologies in its day-to-day work, allowing you to compete effectively and deliver services in an efficient manner. By helping sustain OSGeo you also support your current operations into the future knowing that a strong OSGeo is behind your business activities.
• You represent a Community of Practice that has Adopted OSGeo Software – Communities representing a wide range of domains, from professional associations to non-government organizations, leverage OSGeo software as a critical component of their end-user applications. Your community has an interest in ensuring the software can be sustained into the future. By sponsoring OSGeo you demonstrate support for your members’ software selection.
• Your Goals are aligned with OSGeo’s Support for Open Standards and Other Priorities – Help achieve your own organization’s objectives by sponsoring OSGeo as a like-minded organization and benefit from the volunteer efforts of a rapidly growing world-wide community.
• Demonstrate Your Leadership in Open Source Geospatial Technologies – By sponsoring OSGeo you will help align your business with the activities of thousands of adopters of OSGeo software around the world. As a sponsor of OSGeo, you will align your business growth with the momentum behind OSGeo in the marketplace.
• Benefit from Sponsor Networking Opportunities – As a sponsor of OSGeo, you will benefit from unique opportunities to meet and share ideas with key members of OSGeo, other OSGeo sponsors and affiliated like-minded individuals and organizations.

Sponsorship is an opportunity for OSGeo promote gis consultants, spatial service vendors, educational institutions, government departments, and non-government organizations that benefit from our work. Organizations that have nothing to do with GIS and spatial services will be declined.

How OSGeo Sponsorship Works with You

OSGeo Sponsorship is set up to recognize organizations that participate and support us financially at each level in our community. We want to recognize the contributions you make across local chapters, meetups, individual OSGeo projects, foundation outreach initiatives, local FOSS4G events and our annual global FOSS4G conference.

Your OSGeo sponsorship is accumulated, allowing you to control where your sponsorship dollars can be effective. We have defined the following sponsorship levels with this in mind:

Sponsorship benefits are outlined below. Highlights include website placement, inclusion in promotional material, cross promotion at osgeo booth. We ask that silver level sponsors and above issue a joint press release with the OSGeo board to acknowledge your contribution. These benefits are being expanded in 2017 based on your feedback to focus on events and networking opportunities.

Sponsorship Incentives

The following sponsorship incentives are available:

• 25% Discount available to prior sponsors.
• 25% Discount available to organizations residing in Low or Lower-Middle Income Economies (as defined by the World Bank and WHO)

With a 25% dismount the adjusted sponsorship levels are:

Renewal

OSGeo is setup for annual sponsorship from the date your logo is added to our sponsorship page.

We have three options available for renewal:

1. commitment: Have you allocated your marketing budget for the year? Contact us with your committed level of funding allocated to upcoming events, projects and activities. We can update the sponsorship page to reflect your commitment for the year – even if the events have not happened yet.
   This option provides the greatest sponsorship exposure, providing OSGeo Sponsorship branding and a news announcement.
2. running total: Has a new project captured your interest, or a new event suitable for a product announcement? Send us an email as you sponsorship level changes and we can update the sponsorship page.
   This option provides some flexibility, you may need to update your OSGeo sponsorship branding and news announcement over the course of the year.
3. final total: If your organization participates in a mix of marketing sponsorship and support of development activities you may wish to wait until the end of the year for a final total. Send us an email to use this approach, we will keep your sponsorship logo in place from the prior year.
   This approach delays any OSGeo Sponsorship branding or news announcement but requires little upfront planning.

How to Sponsor

OSGeo sponsorship is accumulated across projects, initiatives and events and may be combined with the sponsorship discounts outlined above.

This brings our total up to slightly over $10000 USD to be recognized as a gold sponsor (please see attached company logo).

Organizations requiring an invoice for sponsorship can ask the treasurer@osgeo.org to issue one.

How to Donate

Donations are accepted through the PayPal for some activities:

1. Donations are handled through PayPal, when making the donation be sure to:
   • Check the currency (USD rates are provided above)
   • Use the “Add special instructions to the seller” field on the confirmation page to mention the project or event (example “OpenLayers project sponsorship” or “travel grant program”)
     
2. The OSGeo Treasurer will contact both you and the project or event organizers:
   • Have a logo ready for your organization if you wish to be acknowledged publicly on the sponsorship page.

Sponsorship Benefits

A critical part of the success of OSGeo, is the success of organizations that partner with OSGeo. One strength of OSGeo is its ability to operate at arm’s length from any single organization and, therefore, from any individual sponsor. Every sponsor is an important part of OSGeo, no matter what funding level they commit to. For this reason the benefits offered to sponsors do not compromise impartiality.

In recognition of the various levels of sponsor contributions, each sponsor receives particular benefits. The benefits are detailed below and are cumulative as the amounts increase (higher levels include lower level benefits as well).

Diamond Sponsor

Diamond sponsorship level available to organizations contributing $30,000 USD in total to OSGeo:

• Top Visibility on the OSGeo Sponsors web page in double column row using high visibility 340 x 340 squares
• Key OSGeo marketing materials feature your organization’s logo
• At promotion events, display your organization’s logo as part of the OSGeo Booth
• Joint Press Release with OSGeo to announce Sponsorship
• Organization name listed in “about osgeo” section of foundation press releases.
• Invitation to Sponsor Networking Event with OSGeo Board of Directors and other invited guests during with  annual OSGeo International Conference
• Right to use OSGeo Diamond Sponsor logo and promote named sponsorship level

Platinum Sponsor

Platinum sponsorship level available to organizations contributing $20,000 USD in total to OSGeo:

• High Visibility on the OSGeo Sponsors web page in double column row
• At promotion events, display your organization’s logo as part of the OSGeo Booth
• Joint Press Release with OSGeo to announce Sponsorship
• Organization name listed in “about osgeo” section of foundation press releases, website, and presentations
  “Supported by <YOU> and other sponsors.”
• Invitation to Sponsor Information Exchange Event with Board of Directors
• Invitation to Sponsor Networking Event with OSGeo Board of Directors and other invited guests following annual OSGeo International Conference

Gold sponsorship level available to organizations contributing $10,000 USD in total to OSGeo:

Sponsorship level available to organizations contributing $3,000 USD in total to OSGeo:
