As an organization OSGeo is built around the legal protections afforded by the use of open source licenses.
Distribution Licenses
The Open Source Geospatial Foundation projects are all freely available and useable under an OSI-certified open source license as listed on opensource.org.
For projects that have been contributed directly to the foundation, the following BSD-3 License is available:

Contributor Licenses
Each OSGeo project has its own procedure for accepting contribution of documentation, ideas and code.
The following contribution licenses are used by projects seeking to grant copyright to the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. These licenses are directly derived from the Apache code contribution licenses (CLA V2.0 and CCLA v r190612).
