About 2006 I started looking into OpenSource GIS and OpenStreetMap with the intention to move away from commercial GIS providers during my field of studies.
Since about 2011 I am actively engaged in the local OpenStreetMap community in Austria and since 2018 chairman of the Austrian OpenStreetMap association.
I am organizing the presentation of OSGeo and OpenStreetMap at Austrian GIS-events, mainly GI_Salzburg (formerly know as AGIT) and am writing a regular column about OpenSource GIS in the magazine of the Austrian association for surveying and geoinformation.
My GIS related professional field of work did already encompass research, federal government and now the private sector.
