OSGeo-es will take part in the congress «Informática 2009» in La Havana, Cuba
On February 9-14, 2009 the 13th "Feria y Convención Internacional Informática 2009"[1] will take place in Havana. At the VI Internacional Congress of Geomatics [2], part of the greater congress, the Spanish Language Local Chapter of OSGeo (OSGeo-es [3]) will attend to promote the Free Software for Geomatics (FOSS4G), foster the implementation of Open Standards and their usage for interoperability and promote the access to Free Geo-data.
The Spanish Language Local Chapter of OSGeo invites everybody to participate, Monday Feb. 9 2009, in the Convention Palace (Palacio de las Convenciones), in a day of workshops and practical demonstrations [4] prepared by some of the members of its community. These workshops promise to offer an overview of FOSS4G state of the art technologies and to let users, developers and Latin-American communities meet the international one.
OSGeo and OSGeo-es will be introduced in a dedicated session. A round table on Free Software for Geomatics will be organized too.

We have chosen a mid-North American location because this code sprint is targeting members of the "C Tribe" (eg, Mapserver, GRASS, GDAL, Proj, PostGIS, MapGuide) and many members of the "C Tribe" are clustered in the area. Toronto is also a major travel hub, for sprinters traveling from afar. Other tribes are welcome to join the sprint, of course, but we hope that "C Tribe" members will give this event special consideration.

Major project activities during the last year were coordinate transformation, meta data management, the incubation process with OSGeo, as well as the new deegree3 components Web Processing Service and Sensor Observation Service. These, as well as other issues will be subject of the lectures and discussions of deegree day 2009.
Participation will be free of charge - thanks to the support of our sponsors. You are invited to hold a lecture or offer a tutorial on deegree day. Presentations and tutorials should be of general interest to the participants of deegree day and should focus on aspects of the deegree project.
On May 26th, the pre-conference day, advanced topics workshops will offer the possibility to gain active insight in special deegree applications. Guided by an experienced user or developer and supported by practical examples you will be able to increase your deegree knowledge significantly. Participation in these workshops is subject to a fee.

The Greek Local Chapter of OSGeo co-organizes a Workshop during the "Greek National Open Source Developers Conference". The workshop titled "Developing GIS applications with open source tools" will take place in Athens on Saturday, June 20th, 2009.

The symposium will integrate both scientific conferences (research papers), companies and authorities testimonies (showcases) and training sessions (labs). The scientific part will be driven by IRSTV and the “operational” part will be coordinated by Préfecture de Région and Région Pays de La Loire on behalf of the GEOPAL program.

During the conference the latest advances in the gvSIG project will be presented such as the uses and solutions based on gvSIG that are being carried out in diverse Latin American countries; projects that closely follow the international interoperability standards and which are also more sustainable.
Participation in this conference will be open to any person or organization interested in providing a communication and proposals can be sent for evaluation by the Scientific Committee.

Buenos Aires will host the 1st Latin American and Caribbean gvSIG users' conference, organized by the National Geographic Institute of the Republic of Argentina and the gvSIG Association, with the slogan: "Cooperation is Growth"
This conference will serve as a meeting point to an increasing number of experts and stakeholders in free geomatics, to share experiences and exchange ideas. It will be a turning point towards consolidating the Latin American gvSIG community.
During the conference the latest advances in the gvSIG project will be presented such as the uses and solutions based on gvSIG that are being carried out in diverse Latin American countries; projects that closely follow the international interoperability standards and which are also more sustainable.
Participation in this conference will be open to any person or organization interested in providing a communication and proposals can be sent for evaluation by the Scientific Committee.

In these difficult times when collaboration is most important, we cope with the adversities together with the aim of coming out strengthened by them. We continue moving ahead together. This is part of the gvSIG project and through this approach we keep on growing. This is our slogan for the fifth edition of the gvSIG Conference: ''We keep growing''.
