Both events are being offered to the international GIS community – in particular:

* members of organizations dealing with geo-information (GI);
* scientists;
* small- and medium entrepreneurs;
* representatives of regional self-government authorities;
* staff of institutions involved in implementation of the GMES Programme, including representatives of national GMES offices;

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the Queensland Spatial Conference 2008 (QSC2008), proudly hosted by the Spatial Sciences Institute, Queensland Region. The Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise from 17-19 July 2008.

http://www.qsc2008.com.au/

The spatial sciences are changing rapidly and conferences such as this are vital to ensuring we keep up to date with these changes. The technical programme has been structured to provide quality education and development - and the social programme is one not to be missed!

The Conference theme of Global Warning: What’s Happening In Paradise? gives presenters scope to address the changes relevant to our industry. Surfers Paradise, like many other regions throughout Australia, is under stress from drought, intensive development, population increase, effects of sea level change and other factors associated with global warming/climate change. Like-minded professionals are contributing innovative spatial solutions to these and other challenges across the Asia Pacific Region, in areas of water resources, agriculture, land development, environmental management, emergency services, infrastructure, transport and marine biology.

As spatial professionals, we are employing leading edge technologies and methodologies in mapping, surveying, GIS, remote sensing and photogrammetry to address the impacts of climate change.

The QSC2008 is endorsed and supported by the Land Surveying Commission of SSI and is the premier surveying conference in 2008 for land surveyors.

The annual [http://www.foss4g2008.org Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conference] brings together the people who create, use, and support open spatial software. No other event brings together members of the open source development, open data creation, and open standards promotion communities like FOSS4G.

The 2008 FOSS4G Conference will be held in the fascinating and beautiful city of [http://www.foss4g2008.org/www.capetown.gov.za/ Cape Town, South Africa] from the Monday 29th September to Friday 3rd October at the [http://www.cticc.co.za/ Cape Town International Convention Centre].

In a change from the norm, the FOSS4G 2008 will incorporate one of the biggest GIS events in South Africa - the GISSA 2008 Conference - Interest is expected from the International and Local Communities who might normally attend FOSS4G, as well as a new and enthusiastic audience. South African interest is expected to grow in the light of our new government Open Source Software policy. And of course we expect the usual GISSA community in South Africa to attend, including proprietary GIS vendors, users and presenters. Open communication, debate and discussion amongst the ‘proprietary’ and ‘FOSS’ communities will be encouraged.

The Conference Theme is Open Source GIS: an option for Developing Nations. FOSS4G 2008 is presented by [http://www.osgeo.org OSGeo] and the [http://www.gissa.org.za/ Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA)].

OSGeo-es will take part in the congress «Informática 2009» in La Havana, Cuba

On February 9-14, 2009 the 13th "Feria y Convención Internacional Informática 2009"[1] will take place in Havana. At the VI Internacional Congress of Geomatics [2], part of the greater congress, the Spanish Language Local Chapter of OSGeo (OSGeo-es [3]) will attend to promote the Free Software for Geomatics (FOSS4G), foster the implementation of Open Standards and their usage for interoperability and promote the access to Free Geo-data.

The Spanish Language Local Chapter of OSGeo invites everybody to participate, Monday Feb. 9 2009, in the Convention Palace (Palacio de las Convenciones), in a day of workshops and practical demonstrations [4] prepared by some of the members of its community. These workshops promise to offer an overview of FOSS4G state of the art technologies and to let users, developers and Latin-American communities meet the international one.

OSGeo and OSGeo-es will be introduced in a dedicated session. A round table on Free Software for Geomatics will be organized too.

The VI Geomatics International Congress will join together a group of high level specialist who will address several issues on IT and Earth Sciences. For further information and to submit your talk or workshop proposal, please visit the web site of the event [2]. Call for Papers deadline is set on Oct. 30, 2008.

Get together project members to make decisions and tackle larger problems. We have chosen a mid-North American location because this code sprint is targeting members of the "C Tribe" (eg, Mapserver, GRASS, GDAL, Proj, PostGIS, MapGuide) and many members of the "C Tribe" are clustered in the area. Toronto is also a major travel hub, for sprinters traveling from afar. Other tribes are welcome to join the sprint, of course, but we hope that "C Tribe" members will give this event special consideration.
