End: 2007-11-28 08:00

Hello fellow CUGOSians,

Our regularly scheduled CUGOS [1] meeting would fall on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving which is traditionally a horrible day to travel or schedule anything... so we are going to postpone by one week. So, here are the details about our November 2007 CUGOS gathering:

WHEN: 6pm Wednesday November 28th, 2007 (Note this is the 4th Wednesday)
WHAT: CUGOS Monthly Meeting
WHERE: LizardTech offices [2]

This month we will have a lot to talk about. Some ideas that are in the works include:

- Running some Amazon EC2 processes in front of the group to demo the Elastic Compute Cloud concept (Aaron + Josh)
- Talking about production of KML via Open Source tools (Dane Springmeyer)
- Discussion of a new users experience with OSGIS tools (Peter Keum)
- Discuss more formally the idea of becoming an OSGEO regional chapter (mpg)
- Open forum about what people have been doing...
- Upcoming events (like http://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org/ in April etc...)

Looking forward to the meeting and seeing everyone again...

2nd Annual Free GIS Days, Girona, Spain (II Jornadas de SIG Libre)

Start: 2008-03-03 00:00

End: 2008-03-05 19:00

From [http://www.sigte.udg.es/jornadassiglibre/ II Jornadas de SIG Libre]:

It's a pleasure for us to announce a new edition of the Open Source GIS Meeting that took place in Girona (Spain) in 2007. The previous meeting was without doubt an unprecedented success, pointing out the highest level of the participation and also the high level and quality of the communications presented during the event.

While the purpose of the first edition was to pulse the state of the art about the Open Source GIS software especially in the Spanish speaking community, and show real applications and experiences using any Open Source GIS software and their degree of presence in professional fields of work (pointing out advantages and disadvantages), during this II Open Source GIS Meeting, we are trying to emphasize the discussion about free geodata, open standards for open source software, the role that Public Administration could (or should play) in the adoption of GIS Open Source Software...

We are just launching some ideas... but your participation is fundamental to keep the wheel moving on.

Spanish will be the official language of the meeting.

LocWeb2008: First International Workshop on Location and the Web

Start: 2008-04-21 00:00

End: 2008-04-25 23:59

21-25 April, 2008 - Beijing

The [http://medien.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/LocWeb2008/index.html First International Workshop on Location and the Web (LocWeb 2008)]
focuses on all the geospatial aspects that are related to the Web. A
location-aware Web will spawn network effects among geo-referenced
data models and services, improving interoperability and interaction
by providing a well-defined location concept for the Web. We encourage
submissions that will enable mobile search, search in automotive,
special local search engines in specialized fields. The workshop will
look at the theme of location and the Web from a macro-level,
interdisciplinary perspective. In recent years, the topic of location
appears in many communities and is achieving great attention -
user-generated content, location-related multimedia Web content, Web
scale geo-content mining, and mobile search are only some of these
developments.
