Hello all,

We are on for our June meeting this Wednesday (June 20th - 3rd Wednesday), 5:30pm at LizardTech[1] downtown. As always, we will be collecting money from folks for some Pizza during the first half from those interested in eating and following this rough agenda:

- 5:30pm Start
- Round table discussion (10-15 min)
- Michael Gerlek from LizardTech will touch on Open Source Licensing (15-20 min)
- Pizza (BREAK 10 minutes)
- Aaron Racicot will introduce the python bindings to QGIS for plugin and application development (20-25 min)
- (Time permitting) Josh Livni will run through an intro to TileCache (15-20 min)
- Finish up at the pub across the street

Just a reminder to all CUGOSians that homework will be collected at the beginning of the meeting… i.e. introducing your new CUGOS members!

Hope to see you all there... should be another good meeting.

The third edition of the gvSIG Conference, the free open source GIS software of the Comunitat Valenciana will be celebrated the next November 14th, 15th, and 16th in the Valencia Conference Centre.

In this new edition, important news will be presented to the audience.

The participation in the conference is open, so we encourage any organization or person interested in giving a presentation to send a proposal of contents for its evaluation by the Scientific committee. The proposals can be sent since today until the deadline in June 20th
of 2007.

It is important to highlight that this 3rd edition act as a framework to the first open meeting of the European technological platform COSIRIS (Cooperation for Open Source Infrastructure for Run-time Integration of Services) whose one aim is to develop a European
industry of Open Source solutions. This conference will meet organizations from European countries presenting the results of their researches within COSIRIS framework in open sessions.

Hello fellow CUGOSians,

Our regularly scheduled CUGOS [1] meeting would fall on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving which is traditionally a horrible day to travel or schedule anything... so we are going to postpone by one week. So, here are the details about our November 2007 CUGOS gathering:

WHEN: 6pm Wednesday November 28th, 2007 (Note this is the 4th Wednesday)
WHAT: CUGOS Monthly Meeting
WHERE: LizardTech offices [2]

This month we will have a lot to talk about. Some ideas that are in the works include:

- Running some Amazon EC2 processes in front of the group to demo the Elastic Compute Cloud concept (Aaron + Josh)
- Talking about production of KML via Open Source tools (Dane Springmeyer)
- Discussion of a new users experience with OSGIS tools (Peter Keum)
- Discuss more formally the idea of becoming an OSGEO regional chapter (mpg)
- Open forum about what people have been doing...
- Upcoming events (like http://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org/ in April etc...)

Looking forward to the meeting and seeing everyone again...

44 Presentations will be held in technical, community, research, scientific and business blocks. Presentations are held by FOSSGIS practitioners and address both developers and decision maker. Topics cover all walks of geo life starting with reports from the fast growing community project OpenStreetmap then running allong Ruby on Rails and stretching to ministerial success stories about completely FOSS based spatial data infrastructures.

This year's workshop program introduces the software projects OpenLayers, Mapbender, kvwmap, GRASS, QGIS, gvSIG, deegree, UMN MapServer and GeoServer. Thematic workshops cover geo portal solutions, sensor GIS and a full scale SDI on a Live-CD.

The conference is organized by the Archaeological Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Archaeological Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, the Hungarian National Museum, the Budapest Historical Museum, the Central European University, Archaeolingua Foundation, and the Research Institute for Visualisation, Architecture and Archaeology.

The conference is held under the auspices of the Directorate of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture.

The main theme of the conference is the use of computer applications and quantitative methods in two fields: at large-scale (rescue) excavations that usually precede infrastructural investments and construction works, and during processing and analyzing the huge amounts of data from such excavations.
